What is Active Adult Living?

Active adult living is designed for adults ages 55 and older who want to maintain an independent, low-maintenance lifestyle in a community setting. These communities typically offer private residences, shared amenities, and social opportunities that encourage connection, activity, and convenience. Active adult living allows residents to enjoy freedom and independence while benefiting from a supportive environment, simplified living, and access to services that make everyday life easier.

Active adult living is ideal for individuals ages 55 and older who are independent and want a maintenance-free lifestyle with access to amenities, social opportunities, and a community environment. Residents live in private residences and do not require daily medical or personal care.

Assisted Living provides a special combination of housing and personalized supportive services to help your loved one receive the help they need with daily activities. These activities of daily living (ADLs) may include bathing, oral care, grooming, dressing, reminders about meal times and programs, and medication monitoring and/or supervision and assistance.

À la carte at The Commons lets residents choose optional services based on their individual needs and preferences. Instead of paying for services they may not use, residents only select and pay for the additional conveniences they want, such as housekeeping, transportation, meal delivery, or other lifestyle services.

Yes! The Commons provides on-site maintenance for all appliances, grounds, and buildings.

Here at The Commons, we want simplicity for our residents. That is why we include all utilities, internet, basic cable, and appliances in rent for just one easy monthly bill!

Unfortunately, The Commons does not offer financial assistance to residents. The State of Alabama does not provide support for Active Adult Living or Independent Living communities. If you are in need of financial assistance, we encourage you to contact Huntsville’s Housing Authority for more information about available senior housing options and resources.

The Commons has no hidden fees. When you sign your lease, you can choose optional à la carte services or simply pay your monthly rent. You will never be charged for services you did not select, giving you the flexibility and transparency you deserve.
